This week is very important! We have our last school wide writing prompt for the year. The time our sixth graders will be producing a persuasive essay, and will be evaluated on all six writing traits: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions.

Monday will be media center checkout day. I have several students who cannot check out books because of lost books, fines, or leaving books at home. Please make sure your child is prepared for the school day so that they can participate in all class activities. When students don't have books in class, they don't have the opportunity to use extra time to read.

In class, we will continue with our reading, writing, and conventions learning centers. For detailed information on each center, you can scroll down and find last week's post or click the link on the right hand side of this page. We will also continue reading our novel, Bud, Not Buddy. I am trying to get all students to "dig deep" when we read. I want them to be able to analyze, evaluate, infer, and critique what they are reading. Hopefully, they will be able to carry these strategies into their independent reading to improve comprehension.

SRA is going great. If you have a student in my first flxible group, please discuss with them what we are reading in class. This group will also begin having a spelling test each Friday on words from our SRA lessons. Please help your child study by giving them mock tests at home.
