This week in ELA...
This week in Language Arts, we will continue our remedial learning centers. Students have been placed in their groups based on various data and observation. The students took a test right before the break, and I took at look at how they performed on various standards to place them in the groups. It is my hope that they will excel in the areas they were previously struggling.
As a whole class, we are also beginning to learn about voice in writing. Voice is one of the 6+1 Traits of Writing that students will be graded on. All students who performed well on the test are working on a writing assignment with the main focus being on voice. Hopefully all students will soon find themselves in this group, once they have completed the remedial groups.
The next writing prompt will be this Friday, December 3. Students will be writing an expository essay and will be graded on ideas, organization, and voice.
Grades for this week:
1. Participation (Sponges, DGP, etc.)
2. Group assignments based on various standards
3. Homework average for the week
4. Quiz on Friday covering standards worked on throughout the week
Standards we are working on:
1. Identifying main ideas and details in a composition
2. Identifying and analyzing sentence parts
3. Ideas and Organization in writing (students are rewriting prompt from November)
4. Voice in Writing
Ask your child what group they are in and why! They should know!
