Homework: Direct and Indirect Objects
Here are the steps to find a direct object:
1. Find the subject.
2. Find the verb.
3. Say the subject and verb aloud, and then ask "what?"
4. The answer will be your direct object.
S V DO
Example: Sherry ate a cookie. Sherry ate what? a cookie!
Here are the steps to find an indirect object:
1. Follow all the steps above to find the direct object.
2. Say the subject, verb, and direct object aloud.
3. Ask "To whom?" or "for whom?".
S V IO DO
Example: Sherry baked the class cookies. Sherry baked cookies for whom? the class!
